Centennial Varsity Football was victorious in their season opener Friday night, beating the Corsicana Tigers 34-21. Hank Meyer led all rushers with 110 yards rushing and 2 TDs. Jaylon Jackson scored two touchdowns and Chris Mosley crossed the goal line for the final score of the night.
CHS jumped out to a 13-0 lead, but the Tigers would respond with a 45 yard touchdown pass and the teams went into the locker rooms at half with the score 13-7. The first drive of the second half saw the Tigers tie the score at 13-13. Corsicana had a chance to take the lead but Daryn Kindles blocked the extra point. The Spartans would go on to score on their next three drives to put the game away. Corsicana scored again, but it was too little too late. The Spartans improve to 1-0 on the season and will travel to Denison to take on the Yellowjackets this Friday night at 7:00.
