Spartans Drop Home Opener
– Burleson, TX
The 2020 – 2021 season opens with a tough home loss for the Spartans of Centennial High School to 6A-Waco Midway 60-53. The greatest highlight of this contest besides of the effort and energy that the Spartans competed with was the career day for SO- Kendall Lawrence who led all scorers with a game high 27-points.
Despite the big day for Lawrence, Centennial starts the season off (0-1) despite having erased a double digit deficits to make it a tightly contested ball game. Marred by early and often foul trouble, the Spartans played with an insatiable amount of spirit and pride to combat the obvious size advantage for the Panthers of Midway. What size the Spartans did have with 6’6 SR- Jeb Tobin, was limited due to foul trouble and eventually leading to him fouling out early in the 4th-Quarter.
This did not negate the efforts of the rest of the Spartans. SR- Kyan McNeal, JR- Jordan Weeks, JR- Braden Elrod, JR- Bryce Robinson, JR- Kamryon Johnson, SO- Zach Diaz, SO- Logan Taylor, and SO- Kendall Lawrence all contributed mightily and though their efforts were not met with a notch in the Win-Column, they earned the respect of the one of the state’s best and made the Centennial High School community very proud.
The Spartans of Centennial High School will be back in action at home Tuesday night, November 17th at 8:00pm versus Mansfield High School.
