Spartans Get Tough Road Win
– Mansfield, TX
Tuesday night, seen a clash of 5-5A titans, Centennial High School and Timberview High School basketball teams. The Spartans of Centennial went on the road and defeated the defending state champions 73-67. With the win the Spartans set a new single season program record for number of wins (25) a record that was set by last years 2018-2019 Bi-District Championship team.
In a playoff like atmosphere and two incredibly gifted teams, this game was as even as you could make it with exception of a single quarter. The Spartans solid start led by Freshman – Phillip Hamilton’s hot shooting (3/5 3FG) and quarter high of 9-points, gave the Spartans the much needed distance on the scoreboard to control this back and forth basketball game 17-12 to end the 1st Quarter. To put things into better perspective on how close this game really was, in the 2nd Quarter both programs scored 18-points, in the 3rd Quarter both programs scored 18-points, and in the 4th quarter the Spartans won the quarter 20-19.
The Spartans seen great contributions from outside of the usual suspects of Bolf, Collins, Conerway and Stuckey. Guys like SR – Monte Johnson, FR – Phillip Hamilton, FR – Kendall Lawrence, and JR – Jeb Tobin all made significant contributions in crucial moments that helped swing and keep the momentum in the favor of the Spartans.
Centennial with an Overall Record of 25-5 and a District Record of 9-1 will be back in action Friday night at Burleson High School for round of the city rivalry at 7:00pm. The Spartans are in sole control of 1st place in the district standings being a full 2-games up on the second place team(s).
