The Boy’s sub-varsity basketball teams traveled to Mansfield Summit Friday evening to take on the Jaguars in the final game before the Christmas break.
The freshman A team found themselves in a dogfight Friday evening. After trailing by 15 early in the third, the Spartans started to create some momentum and creep back into the game. At the end of the game, Centennial had its chances, but were unable to convert from the free-throw line. The Spartans ended up falling to Summit by a score of 68-63. Logan Taylor lead the Spartans with 14 points. Carson Taylor added 12 points and Chapman Lewis and Zach Diaz each tossed in 10 points in the loss.
The Junior Varsity team was in a back and forth tussle with the Jags throughout the majority of the game. After being tied at the half, the Summit defense caused some havoc on the Spartans and cushioned their lead to 8 points. Centennial showed some resolve, but was unable to complete the comeback and fell to the Jaguars by a score of 56-46. Cedric Cotton lead the Spartans with 13 points and Braden Elrod scored 10 points.
Both teams will return to action on January 3rd in their district opener vs. Everman at home. 9A will start at 2:00 pm and JV will tip-off at 11:00 am.
