Spartans Move Past Scorpions

– Burleson, TX

Tuesday afternoon the #15 ranked Spartans of Centennial High School extended their win streak to 7-games with a 96-51 home win over FW South Hills High School.

The Spartans came out on fire with a 40-point 1st quarter paced by SR – Tayton Conerway’s 18-point 1st quarter. Conerway’s hot start ignited the Spartan attack and it was no looking back. With a 40-14 run, the Spartans were off and running.

With the pace as fast as it was, Centennial continued to extend it’s big lead into the 2nd quarter where the Spartans took complete control of the game with an aggressive and swarming defense. The Spartan defense was suffocating and shut down driving and passing lanes for the Scorpions taking advantage of the Scorpions missing two key members of their team to illness (per Coach Bell). Centennial ended the 2nd quarter and going into halftime with a sizable 62-24 lead.

The 2nd half looked much like the the 2nd quarter, though the offense had cooled, the defense was still anxious and aggressive. SR Guards – Zach Bolf and Keryn Collins really kicked into overdrive and pushed the pace as they cleaned up the deflections and rebounds of SR – Jacob Stuckey which led to a host of transition baskets. Both, Bolf and Collins scored over 20-points in the game along with Conerway. Joining the SR – Guard Trio was Freshman – Kendall Lawrence, who had his 1st varsity double digit scoring basketball game with 10-points.

4th Quarter ended with the Spartans winning 96-51 and completing a team goal of an undefeated month of November going (7-0). Centennial officially goes on Holiday Break after the game and will be back in action Dec. 5th versus Kingwood College Park in the Spring Creek BBQ Tournament hosted by Mansfield ISD.
