Spartans are Bi-District Champs
Spartans continue to make their claim as the greatest basketball team in the short history of Centennial High School. With tonight’s Bi-district playoff win, it will be pretty hard to argue against their claim as the Spartans win a close game versus FW Southwest 53-52 at Arlington Seguin High School.
As the saying goes, “Basketball is a game of runs” this 1st round playoff contest saw plenty of them and multiple late lead changes. But it was the efforts of Senior – Caleb Werner who made the games most crucial play by forcing a steal on the Southwest guard that allowed Junior – Tayton Conerway to scoop it up and get fouled to seal the game at the free throw line.
The leader of the Chain Gang Defensive Unit (Werner) wanted the matchup and thrived in the matchup as he got his hands on the basketball in the waining moments of a tie ball game. In this low scoring affair, the Spartans managed to make just enough plays down the stretch to secure victory, including Conerway’s clutch free throw to seal it with 2.8 seconds left in the game.
Centennial was led offensively by Senior – Nate Adcox who had a game high 16-points and Senior – Anthony Hunter who accompanied Adcox in double figures with 11-points. Other offensive contributions came from Juniors – Tayton Conerway 7-points, Zachary Bolf 7-points, Jacob Stuckey 6-points and Senior – Caleb Werner 4-points.
The Centennial Spartans extend their program best wins record to 24-9 and will move on to face the #6 state ranked Justin Northwest Texans on Friday night at 7:00pm. Game site has not yet been confirmed, but details will come out soon.
