The boys sub-varsity basketball squads hosted Mansfield Timberview in a district 5-5A match-up on Tuesday evening.
The junior varsity basketball team came out of the gate hot on Tuesday night at Spartan Arena. The Spartans jumped on the Wolves early scoring 20 points in the first quarter and hoisting a 6 point lead going into the second period. Keryn Collins sparked the offense with 13 points in the opening quarter while Preston Tabor added several assists to help the flow of the Spartan attack. The Wolves battled back in the second period to take a four point lead into the half. Centennial added several key baskets in the quarter to go along with a transition dunk from Jeb Tobin that switched the momentum the Spartans way. The game continued to go back and forth throughout the second half, but the depth and relentless defensive attack from Timberview proved to be too much for Centennial going down the stretch. The Wolves came out on top with a 72-66 victory.
Collins lead all scorers with 37 points. Tobin finished with 9 points while Tabor threw in 8 points in the defeat.
The Freshman A team came into the night looking to even the score with the Wolves of Timberview. The Spartans battled throughout the entirety of the game, but ultimately fell late in the game by a score of 67-57. Centennial got the game to within single digits in the final minutes, but were unable to complete the comeback. Timberview closed the game out at the free throw line sealing the 10 point victory.
Jordan Weeks lead Centennial with 18 points and Cedric Cotton added 16 points for the Spartans. Braden Elrod also contributed with 11 points.
Both sub-varsity teams will take on cross-town rival Burleson High School at home on Friday evening. The JV will tip-off at 5:00 pm and the Freshman A are scheduled to start at 8:00 pm.
