Spartans Win in Overtime
As the Spartans celebrate the accomplishments of it’s middle school programs at Kerr Middle School – Burleson, TX, they also faced off with perennial district power Everman High School on Tuesday night at Spartan Arena.
As the 7th and 8th Grade future Spartans looked on, the Spartans looked to try and create some separation amongst the District 5-5A rankings. Prior to the start of tonight’s contest, Centennial was tied for 2nd place with Mansfield Legacy, both programs were sitting at (5-2) in district play. In Overtime, the Spartans survive the Bulldogs of Everman 73 – 67 to move their record to 19-7 Overall and 6-2 in District 5-5A.
In a game that saw the Spartans down 13-points at the end of the 3rd-Quarter, the Spartans of Centennial showed some real resolve, hung in there and fought as a unit to go on a 16 – 2 run to start the 4th-Quarter. Basketball truly is a game of runs and this one was full of them. The Spartans pressure really turned up the heat and had the then very composed Everman team get a little sporadic and the Spartans capitalized with multiple steals that led to layups sparked by Senior – Nate Adcox.
While being down 2-points with under 10-seconds on the clock Junior – Jacob Stuckey hit his most important shot of the game to tie it and send the game into overtime. Once in Overtime, the Spartans controlled the game and was able to secure and come away with the game on the back of Junior – Tayton Conerway and his 7-points in overtime.
Centennial moves on to play Granbury High School on Friday – January 25th, 2018 at 6:30p at Granbury.
