The Centennial sub-varsity basketball teams hosted the Everman Bulldogs in a district showdown on Tuesday night.
The JV basketball squad established their offense early at the start of the game, but some hot shooting from the Bulldogs gave them an 18-16 lead after the first quarter. Both teams slowed their pace in the second period with Everman taking a 5 point lead going into halftime. Marek Kerr and Keryn Collins lead the scoring effort in the 3rd quarter with a combined 14 points of Centennial’s 24 team points. Centennial took the lead going into the final quarter, but were unable to stop the scoring effort of the Bulldogs’ key guards. Everman outscored Centennial by 12 points to seal a 65-61 win over the Spartans on their home court.
Keryn Collins lead Centennial with 18 points. Jeb Tobin ended with 17 points while Marek Kerr pitched in 11 points.
The freshman A squad battled with the Everman Bulldogs throughout the entire contest, but ultimately came up short by a 54-52 victory. A last second attempt to win the game by Bailey Sosebee fell short at the buzzer. The Spartans were lead in scoring by Braden Elrod (12 points) while Jordan Weeks and Cedric Cotton each added 11 points in the losing effort.
Both teams will travel to Granbury to take on the Pirates on Friday, 1/22/19. The JV will tip-off at 5:00 pm and the Freshman A will start at 8:00 pm.
