Spartans Show Appreciation for Teachers w/Crowley Win
The Centennial Spartans looked to eclipse its season win total of a season ago in tonights District 5-5A contest. The Spartans played host to the Crowley Eagles at Spartan Arena.
The Spartans turned around a tight early first quarter to take a 13-9 lead into the second quarter. The Spartans withstood an early Eagles run and closed the half on an impressive 10-0 run of their own, capped with a Tayton Conerway steal that led to a Jacob Stuckey 3-pointer.
The win improved Centennial’s record to 17-6 overall and 4-1 in District 5-5A play. The win also topped the Spartans overall wins record of a season ago of 16-wins and the loss moves Crowley to 3-2 in district play.
Centennial was led by the hot and steady shooting of Jacob Stuckey who’s 27-points on 10/14 shooting paced the Spartans to a win. Though Stuckey’s sweet shooting stroke was on full display, his teammates helped him a great deal by finding him in areas where he could work.
The Spartans executed their game-plan, which was to keep the Eagles off of the offensive glass by matching their physicality and trying to limit their transition options. The Spartans contained the aggressive and rim attacking of Crowley on missed shots to merely 6-offensive rebounds.
Along with Jacob Stuckey, were SR – Anthony Hunter 14-points, JR – Tayton Conerway 12-points, JR – Zachary Bolf 8-points, and SR – Kyland Walker 6-points.
The Spartans will face the state ranked #20 – Legacy Broncos of Mansfield Tuesday night on the road at 7:30p. Both teams are currently 4-1 in District 5-5A play and tied for 2nd place.
