The sub-varsity boys basketball teams hosted district opponent Crowley High School Friday evening. Both teams were able to walk away with victories in the district tilt.
The freshman A team jumped on the Eagles early with their stifling full court press. Bailey Sosebee got things going offensively for the Spartans in the first quarter with 7 points. The next two quarters were big for Centennial as they outscored Crowley 40-25 to take a 20 point lead going into the final period of play. The fourth quarter proved to be an even battle for both teams, but Centennial outlasted the Eagle comeback effort with a final score of 69-50 in favor of the Spartans.
Sosebee lead Centennial with 16 points while Cedric Cotton threw in 13 points and Jordan Weeks and Oscar Corrales each accounted for 11 points in the winning effort.
The Spartan JV squad showed toughness and some grit in their 70-62 victory over the Eagles Friday night. Centennial exploded out of the gate with a 13-0 run to start the game. The Spartan defense caused several turnovers for the Eagles and lead to some easy baskets in transition. Crowley answered back in the second half but was still down 13 going into the half. A six point effort for the Spartans in the 3rd quarter allowed the Eagles to creep back into the game, but Centennial showed their toughness in the final quarter of play by scoring 28 points and going 11-15 from the free-throw line to seal the deal in the 8 point victory.
Keryn Collins lead all scorers with 26 points while Preston Tabor added 16 points. Marek Kerr also added 14 points in the win.
The sub-varsity boys teams will travel to Mansfield Legacy on Tuesday night in a crucial district showdown. Both teams are scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 pm.
