The boys sub-varsity basketball teams traveled to Mansfield Timberview Friday for an afternoon district match-up against the Wolves.
The freshman A squad battled throughout the entirety of the game, but ultimately fell by a score of 59-50. The slow start by the Spartans was ultimately too much to overcome, even with Centennial outscoring the Wolves in the second half.
Brayden Elrod and Bailey Sosebee paced the Spartan offense with 14 points a piece. Cedric Cotton contributed with 7 points and some pesky defense in the full court.
The JV squad came out firing and traded baskets with Timberview for most of the first quarter with a 15-22 score at the end of the period. The sluggish second quarter by Centennial proved detrimental as the Spartans went into the half trailing by a score of 43-21. The score remained in the Wolves favor throughout the second half and ended with a 89-60 loss for the Spartans.
Keryn Collins led Centennial in scoring with 31 points while Marek Kerr threw in 12 points in the losing effort.
The Freshman A and JV squads will travel to cross town next Tuesday, January 8th to take on rival Burleson High. The JV tip-off is at 5:00 pm while the freshman A is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
