Spartans Fall to Timberview
The Centennial Spartans dropped their 1st District 5-5A game moving their record to 2-1, as they played the #3 State Ranked Mansfield Timberview team on the road.
Centennial (15-6 overall, 2-1 District 5-5A) got off to a slow first quarter start that was plagued by Timberview fast-break layups and Spartans turnovers as Timberview took a 27-11 1st Quarter lead. The Spartans responded with some grit and resiliency as they settled in and chipped away at the Wolves lead going into halftime down 12-points.
The Wolves came out of the half and immediately forced 3 Spartan turnovers and extending their lead out to 19-points before Centennial exploded in the 4th Quarter and their pressure sped up the Wolves and allowed the Spartans to get some easy baskets and close the deficit to 3-points with under a minute.
Zach Bolf led all Spartan scorers with a team high 26-points and his defense and rebounding allowed for a Spartan comeback. Anthony Hunter, Tayton Conerway, and Jacob Stuckey all added field goals mid-way through the 4th quarter, capped off by a pair of FT’s by Stuckey and a layup by Bolf. The Spartans were never able to get any closer than 3-points.
Zachary Bolf led all Spartan scorers with 26-points and 8-rebounds, Anthony Hunter had 23-points, Tayton Conerway added 12-points and 7-rebounds, Jacob Stuckey 9-points and 5-rebounds, Nate Adcox chipped in with 4-points and Kyland Walker added 2-points to close out all Spartans scorers.
Centennial comes out of the holiday break and into the New Year with an overall 15-6 record and 2-1 in district play as they lose 85-76 to the Wolves of Timberview. The Spartans will be back in action on Tuesday night, January 8th at Burleson High School as they take on their district and city rival Elks of Burleson High School at 8:00p.
