Hunter’s 1000th Career Point Leads Spartans to 1st District Win
Spartans Varsity basketball team shows signs of a growing defensive mindset as the defense suffocated the Bulldogs of Everman High School in tonights District 5-5A season opener on the road.
The Spartan’s full-court pressure forced multiple early Bulldog turnovers and Everman found themselves in an early 21-point hole. The Spartans continued their strong defensive play into the 2nd half when they held Everman to only 8-points in the 3rd Quarter as they scored 32-points in the quarter.
Centennial led from start to finish and closing out the game with a score of 88-47.
Senior – Anthony Hunter got the Spartans going offensively as he had a game high 27-points, with the 27th point he eclipsed the 1000 point mark for his career.
Aided by the help of his teammates, Hunter’s 27-points was accompanied by big games of 20-points from Junior – Tayton Conerway, Junior – Zach Bolf 12-points and Junior – Jacob Stuckey 10-points. The Spartan’s scoring balance has definitely been a catalyst to the early success of this 2018-2019 Spartan group.
Centennial (11-4 overall, 1-0 District 5-5A) will be at home (Spartan Arena) on Friday afternoon versus Granbury High School at 4:30p.
