After having a rough 2-4 weekend at Wylie Tournament, the Spartan Softball team came out on top at Cleburne. Spartan Softball took the lead late and defeated Cleburne 11-5 on Tuesday.
Spartan Softball was down 5-4 in the top of the sixth inning when Gracie Morton singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs. The ladies earned the victory despite allowing Cleburne to score three runs in the fourth inning. Cleburne’s big inning was driven by a triple by E Castillo and by Trvssell. Cleburne knotted the game up at four in the bottom of the fifth inning. King drove in one when she singled. Serena Bersuch was the winning pitcher for Spartan Softball. She allowed seven hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out three. Castillo took the loss for Cleburne. She went three innings, allowing two runs on four hits and walking one. Spartan Softball tallied 13 hits. Morton, Samantha Barker, Kylee Gowin, and Laney Vaughn each managed multiple hits for Spartan Softball. Morton led Spartan Softball with three hits in four at bats. King went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Cleburne in hits.
Softball teams play tonight AT WORKMAN. Varsity is at 6pm and JV will play after.
